Helping Others – And Ourselves – Grow

Helping others helps us - and can take as little as two minutes, a thoughtful comment, or a simple question.

Clarity Kickstart:

Although my coaching clients come from a wide variety of fields, industries, life experiences, and levels of expertise, I frequently notice some common themes among them. One such theme involves their response to this question:

“What lights you up at work?”

More often than not, their answers will include some aspect of helping others grow. “I love helping a coworker figure out a challenge,” they might say, or “When I see someone on my team growing in their abilities, confidence, and leadership, and knowing I helped play a role in that.”

Helping others helps us. It helps us build a sense of community, helps us engage our strengths, and helps us fulfill our purpose.

This week, look for – and reflect on – opportunities to help others grow.

Compliment a teammate on their presentation and share what you learned from it.

Provide sincere encouragement to someone struggling to solve a problem or complete a project.

Ask your coworker, supervisor, coffee date, or friend, “How can I help you?”

Opportunities to help others grow abound – and sometimes only require a minute or two of your time. Enjoy this season of growth – both for the people you help, and for you in return.
