What Are You Doing Right?

Our errors and shortcomings have a way of making themselves known. But what about all the things you're doing well?

“Athletes go to the tape when they’ve had a bad game to see what they did wrong, to make sure they don’t repeat those mistakes. What they don’t do often enough – what none of us does often enough – is go to the tape when we’ve had a great game, to see what we did well so we can keep on doing it.” – Will Guidara

Clarity Kickstart:

We tend to hear plenty about what we’re doing wrong. Negativity bias helps make sure of that – not to mention advertising, social media, and often the chatter in our own minds.

But acknowledging, celebrating, and building on what we’re doing right? That takes intentional action.

This week, spend a few moments reviewing last week’s calendar.

What meetings or events went exceptionally well?

Which project did you complete on time and on budget?

With whom did you connect in a meaningful way?

Where can you give yourself a pat on the back?

Pay extra attention to the wins. Ask yourself what helped contribute to them.

Then, this week, weave more of those contributing aspects into your activities wherever you can.

Learning from mistakes is important. But don’t let that be the only force driving your actions.

Make honoring your wins a regular part of your routine. Living and working in favor of your strengths will get you farther faster – and with a greater sense of meaning and purpose, too!
