Book Flight: Purposeful Productivity

Christi Hegstad March 19th, 2025

“I long for a sense of accomplishment without also feeling like I’ve run myself ragged to achieve it.”

Checking things off the list can feel incredibly motivating and energizing for many of us. I know I’m not the only one who adds things to the list at the end of the day just to experience the satisfaction of checking them off!

And while our to-do’s (or Inspired Actions, as I label them) can keep us on the path to our goals and fulfilling our responsibilities, they can also begin to overtake us rather than support us. Task completion is part of productivity, but it’s certainly not everything.

That’s where I’d like to offer you some ideas. A significant aspect of my coaching work focuses on helping people be purposefully productive; in other words, achieving big dreams and bold goals – and even simply the day-to-day requirements of work and life – but not in a frenzied, frantic, exhausting way. I want you to experience meaningful success and to go to bed at night feeling like you’ve been intentional with your time, honored your priorities, and moved the needle forward on your highest aspirations.

In my latest Reading And Purpose feature article, I highlight three books that can also support you in this endeavor. I share a brief overview of each, as well as my top takeaway and a quote worth considering. At the end of the article, you’ll also find a few honorable mentions, too.

Priorities: What If *Everything* Matters?

Christi Hegstad December 11th, 2024

If someone asked you to define the word ‘priority,’ you probably could fairly easily. (Or you could look up a dictionary definition for help.)

But what if someone asked you to name your top priority?

How many things come to mind?

What if everything matters? How do you decide what matters more? What do you do about the things that you put off in favor of other things – or the guilt or pressure you feel in the process?

I tackle this topic in my latest Reading And Purpose newsletter, just in time for a fresh, prioritized start to the new year. You can subscribe to the newsletter and read more here!

Your Purposeful Year-End Review!

Christi Hegstad December 5th, 2024

If you could describe your 2024 in three words, which words would you choose?

We’re often quick to categorize an entire year as either ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ Recency bias plays a role, too – your past month or two might color your view of the entire year. In actuality, however, the past 365 days have likely been filled with much more nuance.

So before we enter into 2025, I encourage you to review 2024 purposefully – both to provide an accurate picture of the year you’re wrapping up, as well as to inspire meaningful direction for the one ahead. My latest Reading And Purpose newsletter includes 24 prompts to help you do just that – feel free to use them as you celebrate your wins, honor your growth, acknowledge your perseverance, and set the stage for a new year filled with meaning and purpose!

You can find Reading And Purpose here. Enjoy!

November Reading Wrap-Up

Christi Hegstad December 2nd, 2024

As an eclectic reader, I don’t often see a through-line in the variety of books I pick up any given month. In November, however, I could summarize much of my reading in two words:

Outrage and Uplift.

I share my takeaways from the 10 books I read (6 fiction, 4 nonfiction) in the latest Reading And Purpose newsletter – subscribe here and let me know your thoughts on these books, too!

When Things Feel Heavy

Christi Hegstad November 27th, 2024

Several years ago, when faced with a number of challenges at once, I noticed my mindset veering toward the negative more than I’d like. So much felt hard, heavy, or more difficult than I felt it ‘should.’ I wasn’t exactly sure how to fix or change a lot of it, but I also didn’t want to keep feeling weighed down by it.

That year, my annual theme provided an unexpected starting point to help me get unstuck. You can read about this practice, as well as how to apply it in your own life, in my latest Reading And Purpose newsletter!

The Light(house) In The Storm

Christi Hegstad November 12th, 2024

I don’t know about you, but my mood has been all over the place lately.

And while I can’t always control what happens around me or even the emotions that arise within me, I am thankful for something I can consistently return to – a constant that serves as my own personal lighthouse. It acts as a beacon, a steady presence, and a guide whether my world feels clear and sunny or thunderous and stormy.

You’ve got this lighthouse, too.

It’s your core values.

If you’d like to learn more about what core values are (including how they differ from all values), one of my personal values in action, questions to help you uncover your core values, and more, check out the latest issue of Reading And Purpose!

Capturing Daily Delights

Christi Hegstad November 5th, 2024

Back in 2020, my theme for the year was DELIGHT. And on January 1 of that year, I decided to record one delight each day for the entire year.

Now, nearly five years later, I am still documenting a Daily Delight! This practice has proven so helpful over the years and I just don’t want to stop.

If you’d like to see a sampling of my delights, I’ve listed 100 of them in my latest Reading And Purpose newsletter. Feel free to add to the list, and let me know if you begin a Daily Delight practice of your own!
