Change, as you well know, is a constant.
Circumstances change. Policies and procedures change. Leadership changes.
And we, as individuals, change. We change our minds, our career paths, our personal styles. As a coach and a passionate pursuer of growth, I am attuned to and in favor of intentional change.
But still, I have come to realize there are some things I intend to keep constant – to not change – no matter what.
For example, I intend to always:
* Work to further causes I am passionate about, like literacy and education.
* Treat people with kindness and respect, including people who may believe or vote or act differently than me.
* Donate to food pantries.
* Focus on what I can control / influence.
* Look for, and shine a light on, the positives and the difference-makers.
* Take action instead of complaining. (Or at least keeping complaining to a minimum! :-))
* Care for my family, community, and world in the best ways I know how.
* Continue to grow, evolve, open my mind, and learn new ways to make a meaningful impact.
The reason I don’t foresee these things changing? They are rooted in my values.
They connect to my core beliefs, to my moral compass, to the purpose of my life. They are like the roots of a tree, providing the foundation from which every other aspect of my life grows.
So even as circumstances, policies, leadership, and everything else in the world changes – and even as I personally change and grow – those above items remain constant. They are things that I don’t intend to change, no matter what.
How about you? What will remain constant within you, regardless of the changing circumstances around you?
