“What would you do if you came face to face with your future self? … Would it change how you behaved in the present?” – Emily Falk
Clarity Kickstart:
The first time I was asked to do a visualization exercise where I ‘met my future self,’ I’ll admit I was skeptical. I am a very practical person, and this seemed a bit too ‘woo-woo’ for me. But I am also a good student, always wanting the A, so I gave it a try.
Twenty years later, I still vividly remember the experience. And I continue to revisit it more often than I ever imagined.
One point my future self shared with me: Don’t worry so much. Focus on what’s within your power, take action where you can. But let the little things go – those things you won’t even remember two months into the future, let alone twenty years.
What would your future self tell *you*?
This week, close your eyes for a moment and imagine meeting your twenty-years-from-now self. What are they celebrating? What have they learned? How are they spending their time? What matters most to them? What advice are they giving current-you?
Then, follow this up with one more question:
How might this inspire your actions *today*?
I’ve now done this exercise many times since that first experience, and I always find it beneficial. I hope you do, too!
