A Simple Step To Clarity

Feeling stuck? The answer could be a simple step away - literally.

“When we change spaces, we change the information that’s coming in. When you leave your house and walk into the nearby woods or park, your sensory experience shifts. Your attention shifts. And your perspective can shift as well.” – Ethan Kross

Clarity Kickstart:

We’ve probably all been there: Staring at a computer screen, feeling completely stuck on a project, only to have a brilliant answer come to us later that evening in the shower or while driving to the store.

The flash of insight is delightful, of course! But the hours of stuck-ness? Not so much.

What if we could prompt those insights sooner?

This week, make it a point to periodically change your scenery.

If you can bring your work elsewhere, consider heading to a park, library meeting room, botanical garden, hotel lobby, or cafe.

If you need to stay in/near your building, seek out a conference room, reading nook, picnic table, or swap areas with a coworker for a while.

And if your work requires you to remain right where you’re seated, try clearing your desk, freshening up your photos, rearranging your setup, or standing instead of sitting. Take advantage of walks to the coffee maker, restroom, or breaths of fresh air outdoors throughout the day, too.

A change of scenery can prompt a change in perspective – often much more quickly than staring at a computer screen willing the answer to come. Give it a try and see what brilliance you uncover!
