Personal And Professional: Two Separate Areas For Growth?

Christi Hegstad March 30th, 2015

“After reading the sixteenth parenting book that contradicted the first fifteen, I quit trying to become a better parent and decided to try becoming a better person.”
Glennon Doyle Melton

Coaching Tip for the Week:

If you’ve known me for more than 5 minutes, you probably know books are a huge part of my life. I love to read them, write them, talk about them, give them away. Seeing one of my kids engaged in a book warms my heart!

Scan the shelves, and you’ll find books to help you become a better manager, CEO, parent, director, and the myriad roles we play in life. Yes, certain roles carry tasks upon which you can improve.

But the fact of the matter is, you are one person – a whole and amazing person – and you bring that whole person into every role and experience. Trying to compartmentalize your growth is like trying to gain body strength by only lifting weights with your right arm.

This week, take on an activity to ramp up your whole self – not just one aspect. One of my favorites that I have my coaching clients do is a values clarification. When you know your 3 core values – those non-negotiables that are as much a part of you as the air you breathe – you will find more alignment in your life, easier decision-making, and stronger self-confidence, regardless of the role or situation.

Let your values be your guide!
